Using Iris Athlete

The daily survey includes questions about mood, stress, motivation, energy, soreness, sleep, and training difficulty, to create a snapshot of your current state. When combined with your genetic data, you have a holistic basis for your daily choices and long term strategy.

How you respond to your environment has some underlying genetic factors. Iris allows you to see patterns in your response to training over time, so you can make informed decisions. Use Iris to reflect on how you are adapting to training, whether you need to make lifestyle changes, and when to rest, or when to work harder. If you have a coach, ask your coach for help on the best ways to adapt based on the patterns that are showing up. Remember, the more regularly you complete the survey, the more complete your insights will be.

A:C TL stands for Acute to Chronic Training Load. It compares how fatigued you are in the short term to your long-term fitness. It helps you understand whether you are pushing yourself the right amount, too much, or not enough. It compares your training load in the short term to the load your body has adapted to over time. A high ratio means you have pushed harder recently than you have become used to, and as a result, your next training session may be affected. A low ratio means you have been training at an average or gradual increase for your body, and you are likely to be able to train reliably.

The colors indicate whether the difference is positive or negative.

  1. Orange or red indicates the value has moved away from the average in a negative direction.
  2. Green indicates the value moved away from the average in a positive direction.

For instance, if you see +80% in soreness, it means you have reported feeling more sore than average.

The percent values represent how far from your average you have recently been reporting. The further away from 0%, the more abnormal the response is considered.

For instance, if you recently reported higher soreness than average, it might show up as

You should complete the survey every day before training, and as soon as you wake up on days when you don’t train. If you have a coach, the sooner you complete the survey, the faster your coach will be able to help you respond to today’s situation. Set up a daily habit and you’ll be sure to establish a powerful set of information that will help you perform at your best.

The survey takes under a minute to complete.

For most accurate results, you should complete your survey every day. If you often miss entering data, you may lose the powerful insights that will help you adapt.

You can only enter data for today, so be sure to enter your data every day. Make sure you enable notifications for the Athletigen Iris app in your phone’s settings so you will receive daily reminders.

  1. The Watchlist is Iris’ unique way to alert coaches that specific athletes may need their immediate attention, highlighting the most critical insights of athletes in their group.
  2. If you are on The Watchlist, it means your coach will be aware of what you have reported, and they will be able to understand how you are feeling more quickly. You will also see what your Watchlist insights are on your app so you can discuss them with your coach.

Absolutely. Iris requires 8 days of data entry for acute (short term) insights, and 28 days of data entry for chronic (long term) insights. It’s smart to get into the daily habit of entering data as soon as you download the app. When the genetic data is processed and available in the app, the accumulated daily insights will become even more powerful and useful.

Whatever works for your current training situation! Every coach & athlete relationships is unique. We recommend discussing how you will each use the information, and regularly checking in with each other.
